SETIU, Oct 11, 2026 — A brief encounter at a bus station in Bandar Permaisuri turned into a heartbreaking final memory for Rosmawati Mamat after her cousin was killed in a five-vehicle crash in Setiu.
The accident, which occurred at about 3.45pm on Saturday at Kilometre 48 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Kampung Selamat, claimed the lives of traders Zawiah Halias, 41, and Nur Fauziah Ismail, 38.
Rosmawati, 51, said she had unexpectedly met Zawiah earlier in the day at the bus station and noticed that her usually cheerful and talkative cousin was unusually quiet.
“She was normally very friendly and talkative, but during our meeting she was mostly silent. I never imagined it would be our last meeting,” she said at the Forensic Unit of Setiu Hospital.
Last Goodbye
According to family members, Zawiah was travelling to a night market in Sungai Tong where she earned extra income selling food, including takoyaki, together with Nur Fauziah.
Zawiah’s niece, Nurul Syazwina Mohd Suhaimi, 17, said the family was shocked by the tragedy and was waiting for relatives travelling from distant locations before funeral arrangements could proceed.
