Barisan Nasional (BN) secured the Ayer Kuning by-election on April 26, 2025, but failed to hit its 18,000-vote target, prompting internal blame. Perak BN chairman Saarani Mohamad attributed the shortfall to a low 58% voter turnout, far below the 75% needed for the goal. “With 75% turnout, 24,000 would’ve voted, leaving 18,000 for us after PN’s 6,000,” he said. BN’s Yusri Bakir won with 11,065 votes, beating PN’s Abdul Muhaimin Malek (6,059) and PSM’s KS Bawani (1,106). Saarani praised voters for rejecting “slander,” but turnout concerns sparked coalition introspection.
