NEW: Madani’s vote share drops 7%, PN’s vote share increases, and PSM doubles its share

1 min read

In the Ayer Kuning by-elections, the Madani coalition’s vote share dropped 7% from 2022’s 68%, with turnout falling to 58% from 74%. PN’s vote share rose from 29% to 33.2%, while PSM doubled its share to 6%. Lower turnout suggests reduced Madani supporter enthusiasm, which points to Madani supporters being less motivated to vote. Perhaps more worryingly for Madani—and Harapan in particular—was how PSM performed.

BN won the Ayer Kuning by-election in Perak on April 26, 2025, with candidate Dr. Mohamad Yusri Bakir securing 11,065 votes (60.7%), defeating PN Abd Muhaimin Malek (6,059 votes, 33.2%) and PSM Bawani KS (1,106 votes, 6%).
