The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended seven individuals, suspected to be custom agents, for allegedly orchestrating a scheme that led to a loss of approximately RM33 million in customs tax. The suspects, aged between 30 and 60, are accused of collaborating with luxury car owners, manipulating documents to obtain unwarranted reductions in customs duty assessments.

Luxury car duties
This operation, named ‘Op Eagle,’ was initiated in response to the Auditor General’s Report 2022 (LKAN 2022), which highlighted the under-collection of customs duties on Langkawi Island from 2012 to 2021. The MACC’s investigation revealed a syndicate involved in granting illegitimate exemptions and reductions.
