Malaysia has dropped seven places to 34th out of 67 countries in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, and four places to 10th in the Asia-Pacific region, now ranking lower than Indonesia and Thailand. Singapore reclaimed the top spot globally. Malaysia’s decline was noted in areas such as economic performance, government efficiency, and business efficiency, though it retained its position in infrastructure.
Global competitiveness
Challenges identified for Malaysia include boosting R&D investment, optimizing the labor market, updating policies, leveraging advanced technologies, and mitigating costs. The rankings, combining executive perceptions and statistical data, were supported by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation.
