Malaysia is constructing a RM492 million inland port in Perlis, set for completion by Q3 2025, to boost trade with China (and Thailand). The Perlis Inland Port (PIP) will handle 300,000 TEUs annually, enhancing the Padang Besar terminal’s capacity. Linked to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the Pan-Asian Railway, it aims to connect Malaysia to Kunming, China, facilitating trade in timber, rubber, and latex. Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized PIP’s role in integrating Malaysia into China’s rail network, strengthening regional trade. Funded partly by a RM327.45 million federal investment and built with Chinese loans, the port underscores Malaysia’s focus on China-centric economic growth.
