Malaysia Hopes To Win Olympic Medals In Three Sports

1 min read

Kuala Lumpur: Cycling, diving and badminton. These three sports are the Malaysian contingent’s hopes of bringing home three medals. This includes a gold medal, in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Of the 30 Malaysian athletes competing in 10 sports, only three of these sports have a realistic chance of winning medals. But the question is who will be the hero who will deliver the country’s first elusive gold?

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, set the aim after considering a number of factors, including the challenges faced by athletes in approaching the games in the Covid-19 pandemic challenge.

Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, a bronze medallist in the Rio 2016 Olympics in cycling, is the country’s hope for gold in either the keirin or speed events.

Apart from the individual event, which featured 2017 world champion Cheong Jun Hoong, the Pandelela Rinong-Leong Mun Yee partnership (10 metres synchronised platform) was the biggest hope in diving.
