Malaysia has adjusted its visa-exemption agreement with China, requiring Chinese nationals entering under the visa-free scheme to limit stays to a total of 90 days within any 180-day period, tightening rules to curb abuses of the facility that had seen extended non-declared work.

Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution told Parliament the move aims to ensure that the visa exemption is used for genuine tourism and short visits, not for undeclared employment in sectors like construction and services.
Under the new interpretation, Chinese visitors may still enter for up to 30 days per visit, but total cumulative days must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day window, enforced through enhanced passport scanning at all entry points.
