KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — The government is considering requiring all artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content to be labelled as “AI generated” under the upcoming Online Safety Act 2024, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said today. The Act is expected to come into force by year-end to address AI misuse for scams, defamation, and impersonation. Fahmi noted some platforms already label AI content voluntarily but called for regional cooperation among Asean countries to expand such initiatives. He also highlighted the lack of global guidelines on AI fake videos and images, adding that active discussions are ongoing at the UN and ITU levels.
