Malaysia Moves to Draft Legal Framework for Driverless Vehicles

The Ministry of Digital has begun talks with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to establish a legal framework for autonomous vehicles in Malaysia. Minister Gobind Singh Deo said preparations must cover safety standards, digital infrastructure, and data protection to support future adoption.

Speaking at the launch of Malaysia’s first Vehicle Forensics Laboratory, he stressed the need for proactive measures as driverless technology becomes increasingly viable.

Gobind added that the framework would ensure a safe and secure ecosystem. Transport Minister Anthony Loke previously confirmed similar efforts, as Malaysia currently has no laws specifically regulating autonomous vehicles or related systems.
