Malaysia says ART clause interpreted in line with law and governance

1 min read

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has clarified that its interpretation of Article 6.2 of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) adheres to good governance standards, Malaysian law and international commitments, countering some public confusion surrounding trade obligations.

MITI stands by interpretation of ART commitments under law and governance

MITI emphasised that all commitments under the trade agreement will be implemented in a manner consistent with the Federal Constitution and domestic policy priorities, reinforcing Malaysia’s adherence to fair competition and legal safeguards.

The clarification aims to address recent debates and reassure stakeholders that trade policy decisions are grounded in transparent and legally sound frameworks.
