Malaysia Ranks Second in Southeast Asia for Internet Streaming Performance

Malaysia has emerged as the second-best country in Southeast Asia for fixed internet streaming performance, recording an index of 80.87 per cent between January and September 2026.

The ranking, based on data from independent internet performance measurement platform nPerf, places Malaysia behind Singapore, which recorded 84.70 per cent. Malaysia also outperformed Thailand and Vietnam, which posted scores of 80.48 per cent and 80.40 per cent respectively. 

Malaysia’s Internet Streaming Quality Nears Regional Best

nPerf said Malaysia’s performance was almost seven percentage points higher than Indonesia’s 74.08 per cent, indicating a stronger experience for users consuming video content.

The platform measures internet quality based on actual user experiences rather than simply relying on advertised network speeds. 

The results highlight improvements in Malaysia’s fixed broadband infrastructure as demand for high-quality streaming continues to grow. Better network performance could benefit users watching HD and other bandwidth-intensive content, while also supporting Malaysia’s wider digital economy.

The ranking puts Malaysia close behind Singapore and ahead of several regional neighbours in one of the most important areas of everyday internet use.
