KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19, 2026 — Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has declared that ties between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), as well as between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, are at their lowest point.
Speaking on his Keluar Sekejap podcast, Khairy said the mood at the 2026 Umno General Assembly reflected a strong sentiment that cooperation with PH had run its course. “Basically, the message is we are only staying in government until the general election, and after that, we fight each other,” he said.

Khairy noted that many delegates wanted elections held immediately, with some pushing for cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PAS, similar to arrangements in Negeri Sembilan. He cautioned, however, that unresolved issues such as seat distribution and arrangements in PAS‑governed states remained obstacles.
Co‑host Shahril Sufian Hamdan added that the political landscape could still shift if Anwar had time to consolidate, citing Najib’s developments and Zahid’s positioning as factors.
