Malaysia and the United States will sign a Reciprocal Trade Agreement during the 47th ASEAN Summit next week, following consensus between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and President Donald Trump.
Malaysia-US Trade Deal
Investment Minister Tengku Zafrul described the deal as fair and balanced, with Malaysia prioritising national interests, including bumiputera policies, halal standards, and procurement protections. The US negotiation team has been in Malaysia since Sunday to finalise terms.
Concerns remain over potential tariffs, especially in the semiconductor sector, under Section 232 of US trade law. Malaysia’s legal and trade teams continue to safeguard local companies and ensure equitable outcomes for both sides.
