Calls have been made for the e-commerce platform Shopee to ban child endangering products after a viral tweet exposed the presence of child-like sex dolls being sold on the platform. The dolls, priced from RM1,500, sparked outrage among netizens, leading to their removal from Shopee’s listings.

However, Shopee already has an age detection and censorship mechanism in place for adult listings, preventing users under 18 from accessing them, and strictly prohibiting any nudity. Concerns were raised by Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, highlighting that these dolls had been available on the platform since mid-last year, emphasizing the need for regulating e-commerce platforms and ensuring greater vigilance over the nature of products being sold.
The incident sparked widespread condemnation on Twitter, with users expressing their shock and calling for stricter monitoring and penalties for those involved in selling and purchasing such items, highlighting the potential dangers they pose to children.
However, it seems that the eCommerce platform has taken down the listings of these inappropriate items. Netizens are still upset that the due diligence for this is not done until the matter went viral on social media.
