Twenty-four individuals, including 17 Malaysians, have safely returned home after being evacuated from conflict-hit Iran. The evacuees, who included six Iranian dependents and one Singaporean citizen, landed at KLIA on June 23 via Malaysia Airlines Flight MH781.
Malaysians Return from Iran After 1,000km Overland Escape
Malaysia’s Ambassador to Iran, Khairi Omar, led the group on a 1,120-kilometre land journey to the Iran-Turkmenistan border before continuing by air through Bangkok. The evacuation was coordinated by Wisma Putra and supported by embassies in Tehran, Ashgabat, and Bangkok.
The Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to Iran, Turkmenistan, and Thailand, and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to protecting its citizens and supporting fellow ASEAN nations.
