The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has provided several critical updates:
- The Specific Charges: Aliff Daniel and his mother are being investigated under Section 4 and Section 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
- Section 4 penalizes acts of worship or rituals that directly contradict Islamic law.
- Section 10 deals with actions that insult or bring contempt to the religion of Islam
The 21-year-old Malaysian man and his 52-year-old mother have been arrested following a viral controversy over his alleged participation in non-Islamic religious rituals.
Videos that circulated on social media allegedly showed the man, a Muslim, taking part in the rituals. He is believed to be the younger brother of a local celebrity.
Syariah Criminal Offences
Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed that Aliff Daniel and his mother were arrested yesterday (Oct. 13) by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) in Kuala Lumpur.
The arrests were made under a reciprocal arrest warrant issued by the Shah Alam Syariah Lower Court.
Shahzihan said JAIS expects to summon at least 14 other individuals to assist the investigation, based on its intelligence. Both suspects are being investigated under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
He urged the public to give authorities time and space to complete their investigations. “JAIS takes this matter seriously and will ensure that all actions are taken in accordance with its jurisdiction, the law and the facts of the case,” he said, advising against speculation or spreading unverified information.
