KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14, 2026 — Two separate viral videos have stirred religious debate and prompted official investigations into Muslim participation in non‑Islamic activities.

In Penang, footage showing Muslims cleaning a Hindu temple drew criticism online. The Penang Island Mufti Department clarified that while Muslims are prohibited from directly maintaining non‑Muslim places of worship, they may assist non‑Muslim communities in humanitarian, welfare, or security matters.

Meanwhile, in Kuala Lumpur, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) arrested a man and his mother after a video allegedly showed him taking part in a non‑Islamic ritual. JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed the arrests, saying investigations are ongoing.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs Dr Zulkifli Hasan said relevant state authorities are examining the evidence and will provide updates once sufficient details are gathered. He urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations proceed.
