The Shariah high court in Kuala Lumpur condemned Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah to seven days in jail today for contempt of court for a speech she made that is said to have “insulted” the Islamic legal system.
On September 5, 2019, Maria, in a statement stated, “Muslim women are still discriminated (against) under Malaysia’s shariah legal system,” when commenting on SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin’s former wife, Emilia Hanafi who was jailed 7 days for delaying the ex-husband’s visit to his children.
