KUALA LUMPUR — MCA President Dr Wee Ka Siong has stated that relevant authorities carry a constitutional duty to ensure the conditional pardon decision granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is respected and implemented strictly according to law.
Wee emphasized that respect for the King’s constitutional prerogative under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution must be demonstrated through action rather than rhetoric. His comments follow reports that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) temporarily stayed the home detention order for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to seek legal clarification regarding his RM50 million fine payment and remaining prison sentence in the SRC International case.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim affirmed that the Conditional Pardon Order issued in September is clear, unambiguous, and unrelated to any other legal proceedings involving the former leader. Wee pointed out that the Attorney-General attended the Pardons Board meeting on September 18 alongside the Federal Territories Minister to provide due counsel, making any legal ambiguity something that should be resolved swiftly without creating unnecessary delays.
“Whether one agrees or disagrees with the decision is a matter of personal opinion, but respecting the constitutional position of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Constitutional Monarchy system is not optional,” Wee stated, adding that upholding the rule of law and respecting royal prerogative are complementary principles that must be upheld consistently.
