1 min read

Kuala Lumpur, April 04, 2025 – The MCMC has detained a customer service officer accused of posting offensive racial content online. The suspect’s smartphone and SIM card were seized for forensic analysis after their statement was recorded at Brickfields police headquarters. The case falls under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, carrying a potential RM500,000 fine or two years in prison. This follows a separate MCMC probe into X user Amir Ridhwaan, who incited racial hatred by referencing the May 13 riots and targeting the Indian community. The MCMC vows strict enforcement to preserve public harmony.
