Melaka Restaurant Reprimanded for Rat Droppings, Misuse of Halal Claim

Halal certification in Malaysia emphasizes not only the absence of pork and alcohol but also strict hygiene standards. An enforcement team from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) recently reprimanded an Indian Muslim restaurant in Melaka after discovering rat droppings on a roti canai preparation table and other unhygienic practices.

The owner had also advertised Halal food without proper certification. Inspectors highlighted poorly stored knives, food, and sambal vulnerable to pest contamination. Officials reminded the owner that Halal means clean, safe preparation, stressing that food businesses must uphold hygiene as part of their responsibility to customers.
