Mike Chong Urges Ridhuan Tee to Renounce Citizenship

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3, 2026 – MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong Yew Chuan has issued a fiery challenge to controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, urging him to renounce his Malaysian citizenship if he continues to sow division and hatred among Malaysians.

Chong, speaking in a statement on Oct 2, said: “Because I am patriotic, love peace, and uphold harmony, I urge him to renounce his Malaysian citizenship and find another country that suits his spirit, as he seems intent on sowing hatred among people.”

Renounce Citizenship

The rebuke came after Ridhuan Tee was accused of belittling mourners who paid their respects to the late Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Ali, widow of former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Ridhuan had described the act of visiting her funeral as “worldly acting,” sparking outrage across political and social circles.

Chong argued that Ridhuan’s remarks politicised a solemn tradition of paying respects to national figures, questioning whether anyone could truly judge the sincerity of mourners. He added that Ridhuan’s continued attacks, including mocking others’ fluency in Malay and their ability to sing the national anthem, showed arrogance and a lack of respect for Malaysia’s multicultural society.

Reiterating his debate challenge, Chong said true patriotism is not measured by language proficiency alone but by words and actions that foster unity. “No matter how fluent his Malay is, if his words only fuel hatred and confrontation, it brings no benefit to society or the nation,” he stressed.
