MOH urges respiratory vigilance as Malaysia reports 596 new TB infections

Malaysia’s Health Ministry has reported 596 new tuberculosis (TB) infections in the latest surveillance period, adding to a total of 3,161 cases logged across the country so far in 2026. The ministry cautioned that TB can spread in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces. 

Malaysia logs nearly 600 new TB cases, ministry urges vigilance

Sabah continued to record the highest number of cases, followed by Selangor and Sarawak, with other states also contributing significant numbers. Health officials emphasised that the risk is higher where people gather for extended periods. 

With Ramadan bazaars and gatherings underway, the ministry highlighted preventive measures such as good ventilation, respiratory etiquette, and early medical assessment for persistent coughs to curb transmission.
