The Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup (KPDN) Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur has launched a follow-up investigation after a viral complaint alleged that a trader was selling karipap at RM2.50 each at the Taman Tasik Permaisuri Ramadan Bazaar.
In a statement, KPDN WP Kuala Lumpur said inspections found the price was clearly displayed as RM10 for four pieces (RM2.50 each) for every variety sold. Authorities also issued one Notice of Verification of Goods Information under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, involving five SKUs including potato, sardine, chicken and beef variants. The trader has three working days to respond.
Netizens Divided Over Price and Enforcement
Online reactions were mixed. Some users said consumers have the choice not to buy if they find the price unreasonable. Others questioned why complaints were raised, arguing enforcement action is criticised even when authorities respond. A few commented that larger or homemade karipap could justify the price, while others felt frozen, smaller versions would not be worth RM10 for four pieces.
