Mount Everest: Malaysian Grandma, 73, Makes it to Base Camp

At the age of 73, a Malaysian grandmother, fondly referred to as the “Iron Lady” by her friends, fulfilled a remarkable achievement by conquering the Mount Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters in September. After an arduous eight-day hike, Ms Suzie Oliver reached her destination, becoming the oldest person on the trail, while the youngest was a teenager she encountered on the return journey.

Prior to her Nepal expedition, she had already checked off two other items from her bucket list: summiting Mount Kinabalu in May and trekking a G7 mountain in Cameron Highlands. With two friends, a guide, and two porters, they embarked on their journey from Lukla airfield, situated at 2,800 meters above sea level, and reached the base camp after a remarkable eight-day trek through challenging terrain.
