JAKARTA, Oct 14, 2026 — A chilling case in North Sumatra has shocked Indonesia after a woman allegedly hired a hitman to murder her own brother for insurance money.
Prosecutors revealed that Tetty Uli Simanjuntak, 42, conspired with Lusper Napitupulu, 57, to kill her younger sibling, Iwan Sudarto Simanjuntak, 33. The plan began in September 2025 after Tetty complained that Iwan constantly demanded money and insulted her when refused.
Insurance Murder
On January 17, 2026, Tetty and Lusper lured Iwan into a car. At 3 a.m. the next day, Lusper allegedly stopped on a deserted road in Karo and bludgeoned Iwan with a wooden stick while he slept. His body was dumped in Desa Kineppen, where villagers discovered it shortly after.
Tetty reportedly promised Lusper 100 million rupiah (RM22,853) for the killing but only paid 6 million rupiah (RM1,370). Police believe the murder was premeditated and linked to insurance claims.
Both now face the death penalty under charges of planned murder. The verdict is expected mid‑October 2026, with prosecutors demanding the harshest sentence.
