KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s defence team argued in the High Court that testimony by former SRC International director Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi relied heavily on hearsay.

Najib’s counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, pressed Shahrol over statements allegedly conveyed by former SRC CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, who remains abroad and has not testified. Shafee contended this amounted to “double hearsay” and could not be verified. Shahrol admitted Nik Faisal was central to his defence but made no effort to secure his attendance. The RM42 million civil suit was filed in 2021.
