A policeman in his 30s has been remanded for four days over an alleged RM3,000 bribe that he is suspected of taking from a married couple in return for dropping an investigation, The Star reported on Saturday (Oct 31).
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained the remand order from the magistrate’s court in Seremban on Saturday (Oct 31). The suspect will be held until Tuesday (Nov 3) to assist in the investigation.
Alleged bribe to drop fight probe
According to the report, the policeman allegedly solicited and accepted the RM3,000 from the couple in exchange for dropping a case involving a fight that included members of the couple’s family.
The offence is alleged to have taken place on Thursday (Oct 29), while the suspect was questioning the couple. The Star said the policeman was detained at about 10pm at a district police headquarters.
Neither the suspect nor the couple has been named.
Policeman remanded until Nov 3
Negeri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrest, the newspaper reported.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which The Star described as covering the soliciting or receiving of gratification.
The MACC has not announced whether the policeman will be charged. He remains in custody under the remand order until Tuesday (Nov 3).
