A New Currency for Sarawak Possible, says Nanta

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi threw a crazy idea on the table, saying Sarawak may consider the idea of introducing its own independent currency. He says this would be because Malaysia’s economy is too unpredictable at the moment thus Sarawak may need its own currency. “I am not a traitor to the country for coming up with this idea. This was something that could be considered if the less favourable economy persists,” Sinar reports.

He says the overall income of Sarawak and its economy has increased but he did not give any indication of how much is the increase and if that was bigger than the entire Malaysia’s economy. He apparently said all this during a podcast on Merdeka.
