Lawyers for Liberty director Zaid Malek stated that there is no legal prohibition against admitting non-bumiputera students into Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). He clarified that Article 153 of the Federal Constitution allows the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to allocate educational privileges to Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak but also mandates safeguarding the legitimate interests of other communities.

Non-bumi admission
Zaid emphasized that allowing non-bumiputera enrollment in UiTM courses is constitutional and argued that misinterpretations of Article 153 for political purposes have harmed national unity and disadvantaged non-bumiputera, contrary to the Constitution’s intent.
