KUALA LUMPUR: The formation of a loose coalition of 12 opposition parties, announced by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is a positive development in Malaysia’s political landscape, said Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim. He said the alliance will create greater political balance against the 18 parties supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani government, which currently holds a two-thirds majority. Hassan noted the coalition’s diversity, comprising Malay-Islam parties such as Bersatu and PAS, Chinese-based Gerakan, Indian parties, Muda, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia, making it more inclusive and less reliant on narrow racial or religious rhetoric.
