Social media users praised the Unity Government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following BNM’s decision to maintain the Overnight Policy Rate or OPR at 2.75 percent after four consecutive increases.

However, as explained by the Prime Minister at the press conference after the Cabinet meeting, 4 January, the decision related to Overnight Policy Rate does not involve government intervention. BNM and its financial committee are the ones who decides on the Overnight Policy Rate .
For the record, Anwar visited BNM last month to listen to a briefing on the prospects, challenges and focus of the country’s economic policy.
