Malaysian Pannir Selvam, who was set to be executed in Singapore for drug trafficking, has received a last-minute stay of execution from the Court of Appeal. Convicted in 2017 for smuggling 51.84g of diamorphine at Woodlands checkpoint in 2014, Pannir’s execution was scheduled for tomorrow. The stay was granted due to his legal challenge against Section 18(2) of Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act, which presumes an accused person knows the nature of a drug in their possession unless proven otherwise, and his complaint about his former lawyer’s conduct.
