KUALA LUMPUR: A man was sentenced to five years’ jail, while his wife was fined RM18,000 for abusing their seven-year-old daughter with a durian husk. The stepfather, Bunyamin Sukiman, 42, will serve jail from July 18, and the mother, Yorlini Abdullah Umar, 32, faces three months’ imprisonment if she fails to pay the fine. The abuse included beating, ear twisting, punching, and slamming her hand with a durian husk, then soaking it in salt water overnight. The court also ordered both to perform 12 months of community service and placed them on a three-year good behaviour bond.
