KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Selangor PAS assemblyperson Shafie Ngah has issued an unconditional apology to Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan. He was accused of making defamatory remarks in 2022 and 2023. Shafie admitted his claims — alleging Syahredzan was dishonest, not devout, and supportive of communism — were false and baseless.

The apology follows a defamation suit filed by Syahredzan in July 2023. Shafie pledged to retract the allegations fully, avoid future defamatory statements, and act with greater caution and integrity. Both parties confirmed the settlement in court on Sept 22. The apology will also be published in two national newspapers.
Note that PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and former economy minister Rafizi Ramli have settled a RM2 billion project defamation suit out of court.
