Defying the religious rhetoric spread by the PAS, Umno’s information chief Dato’ Lukman Adam says it is God who decided for Umno to work with PH. He says this after the massive defeat of the Umno in the Kemaman by-elections where, he adds, the people “voted for the PAS that does nothing for them.” He added that it is God who decided for Zahid Hamidi to become the Deputy PM even though the PAS and PN are saying all sorts of things against the Umno leader.

Meanwhile, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said: “The task of regaining the trust of the Malays to the fold of Umno is difficult but not impossible. But for the time being, Umno must accept the reality that the Malays are far from believing the party as an effective political representative.” He also says He said Umno is seen as being avoided by young Malays and the party has yet to find success in winning over the group.
