PayNet Confirms Transaction Charges but Downplays Price Hike Worries Now

1 min read

PayNet has clarified the confusion surrounding transaction charges, emphasizing that the merchant discount rate (MDR) and the 50 sen fee for transactions exceeding RM5,000 are distinct e-payment types often mistakenly equated. Currently, debit and credit card payments incur MDR, with a waiver for QR payments. However, starting November 1, the MDR waiver for DuitNow QR payments will end.

The company stressed that the MDR is neither a new fee nor an additional charge, originally waived to incentivize QR payment adoption in 2019, and extended during the pandemic. The 50 sen fee applies to peer-to-peer fund transfers and is unrelated to merchant payments.
