Data from the World Competitiveness Report reveals a decline in Malaysia’s competitiveness under the BN-PN regime headed now by PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob compared to the performance delivered by the PH regime.
The drop is steep in 2022 compared to 2018, when Pakatan Harapan was in power with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister, and the drop is as much as 50% in terms of Economic Performance (8 points in 2018 and 12 points in 2022), Government Efficiency fell from 23 to 38, Business Efficiency fell from 17 to 38, and Infrastructure fell from 33 to 37.
The graph below depicts how poorly the BN-PN regime is faring on all fronts, with only Economic Performance showing an improvement due to the opening of economic sectors and high inflation.
