Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) move to form a loose coalition with other opposition parties is viewed as a strategic effort to broaden its base ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16). UTM political analyst Associate Professor Dr Mazlan Alin said the initiative aims to counter perceptions that PN only represents the Malay-Muslim community. By opening space for non-Malay parties, PN seeks to position itself as a multiracial alternative to the Madani government. PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently confirmed progress on this plan. Meanwhile, internal calls for leadership change in Bersatu were described by Mazlan as part of political maturity.
