SELAYANG, July 13 – A shocking incident at Lotus’s Malaysia Selayang outlet has sparked outrage after staff allegedly accused a heavily pregnant woman of concealing stolen items beneath her baby bump. The woman, 38 weeks pregnant, was stopped outside the cashier area and asked, “What item are you hiding in your stomach?” Her husband, who later shared the ordeal on Threads, said staff demanded to see her Buku Pink maternity record and even asked her to expose her stomach to prove she was not hiding merchandise.

The couple were made to wait nearly 20 minutes before a supervisor arrived. The cashier admitted she had not witnessed any theft but claimed suspicion arose because the woman’s stomach “didn’t look like a pregnant belly.” The post quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from netizens who criticised the supermarket’s handling of the situation and its treatment of expectant mothers. The husband claims no stolen items were found and no witness was produced.
