KUALA LUMPUR — Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi has called on PAS to follow Sisters in Islam (SIS) by removing the word “Islam” from its official name. Puad praised SIS’s recent rebranding to SIS Forum (Malaysia) in compliance with a decree by the Sultan of Selangor. He argued that the move could help avoid confusion without changing a group’s core struggle. The use of “Islam” in PAS’s name has long sparked debate, with critics including former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Recent controversies involving PAS leaders have reignited scrutiny over the party’s image and use of religious identity.
