PwC US CEO Paul Griggs says artificial intelligence is reshaping professional services, reducing demand for traditional consultants and accountants while increasing the need for data scientists, engineers, and machine learning experts.
He acknowledged PwC has hired fewer consultants and accountants compared to two years ago, a trend he expects to continue.
PwC Partnerships Expand With Harvard and Wharton Programs
Despite this, Griggs remains optimistic about the future of consulting. He noted that core work in accounting and finance hasn’t fundamentally changed, but AI is accelerating the evolution of skills.
PwC’s AI Jobs Barometer found that roles requiring human expertise are growing twice as fast as those simplified by AI, with wages rising 42% faster since 2021.
Griggs, a father of three, said he still encourages his children to consider consulting and accounting, while also supporting MBAs and liberal arts degrees. He believes continuous learning and curiosity are essential qualities in the AI era.
PwC continues to partner with universities, including Harvard and Wharton, to design leadership and AI training programs.
Calling AI “the biggest opportunity we’ve ever had,” Griggs emphasized that while job titles may shift, demand for human insight, adaptability, and education will remain central to PwC’s growth.
