KUALA LUMPUR: Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has dismissed allegations of misappropriation involving a RM1.11 billion investment, likening the probe to an episode of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
In a sarcastic post on X, Rafizi revealed that he is on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) radar following a report lodged by a coalition of NGOs. The report concerns Malaysia’s agreement with UK-based semiconductor firm Arm Holdings to develop a “Made by Malaysia” chip.
Rafizi Mocks MACC Probe
Rafizi mocked the claims, saying he received no bribes, not even lunch or souvenirs, and insisted he remains financially strained. He accused authorities of weaponising government agencies to silence dissent, noting similar tactics since the 1MDB era.
The report comes amid Rafizi’s criticisms of MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki over a shares scandal, intensifying tensions between the Pandan MP and the commission.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the report will be examined for possible corruption, misappropriation, or abuse of power under the MACC Act 2009.
Sources allege irregularities in negotiation and approval processes, raising concerns of conflict of interest. Rafizi, unfazed, challenged investigators to leave no stone unturned, declaring that while his detractors wield power, he relies on faith in Allah.
