1 min read

The 2025 environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Sultan Idris Shah (SIS) Green Energy Plant in Rawang, Selangor, revealed strong public opposition, with 91.3% of respondents opposing or strongly opposing the proposed waste-to-energy incinerator. This marks a significant shift from 2023, when 52.6% supported the project, attributed to increased awareness via media and social platforms. Concerns include air pollution, health risks, and flash floods, with 50% of opponents citing pollution and 44.8% deeming the site unsuitable. Only 8.8% supported the project, citing environmental and developmental benefits. The Rawang Tolak Incinerator Network emerged to oppose the project. Stakeholder sessions highlighted pre-construction perception issues as the top concern, reflecting heightened community resistance to the incinerator’s potential impacts.
