Fallen PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a long missive on social media today says the Proclamation of the Malays wants the return to Malaya.

Not Usurping Rights?

“The Proclamation of the Malays does not intend to usurp the rights and property of others. The Proclamation party only wants to get justice – that is, the recognition of this peninsula as Malaya, accepting immigrants and their descendants as an assimilated race such as people of Arab, Indian, Pakistani, Indonesian and other descent are absorbed into the Malay race. Accept Malay as the national language,” he says.

Besides, he suggests that those who do not want to be ‘assimilated’ to the indigenous people of the country, the treatment for them should be different.

“For immigrants and their descendants who want to maintain their identity with their country of origin, the treatment of them is of course different from the treatment of the original population and those who fully accept the national language and culture.” All this to call peninsular Malaysia a new Malaya?
