Human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim criticized a right-wing Universiti Malaya (UM) student group, Neo-Siswa UM, for opposing a forum titled “Is Malaysia a Secular or Islamic Country?” where she was a panelist. The group objected to the event, organized by UM Association of New Youth (UMANY), alleging Siti’s views favor LGBT rights. In a YouTube rant, Siti questioned their resistance, stating, “Is it because Siti Kasim voices the truth?” She slammed the students’ close-mindedness, warning it disrupts critical thinking and coexistence, unsuitable for university life. The controversy highlights tensions over open discourse in Malaysia’s oldest public university.
