RM30,000 Hajj Scam Leaves Elderly Pilgrims Stranded, Abused in Mecca

A group of 47 Malaysians, mostly elderly, endured a dangerous journey on foot to Mecca after arriving in Jeddah and discovering their travel agent failed to secure valid Hajj visas. Forced to avoid Saudi authorities, they crossed deserts, hills, and barbed wire without food, water, or proper shelter.

Once in Mecca, they were confined, given minimal food, and subjected to psychological manipulation. Each had paid RM30,000 for the trip. Three have since returned to Malaysia, sparking police investigations under Section 420 for cheating. Authorities are now working to blacklist unlicensed Hajj operators and prevent similar scams.
