NEW: Putrajaya Has RM5.2b To Continue SUBSIDISING Electricity

1 min read

Natural resources, environment, and climate change minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced that the upcoming hike in electricity tariffs, effective from July 1, will not impact nearly all domestic users and low-voltage non-domestic users.

1,500 kWh Treshold

Domestic users consuming less than 1,500 kWh per month, which constitutes 99% of users in the peninsula, will not face higher tariffs. However, those exceeding the 1,500 kWh threshold will be subject to a 10 sen/kWh surcharge, affecting approximately 83,000 users with a projected 25% increase in their electricity bills.

Commercial users will enjoy a 3 sen/kWh surcharge reduction, resulting in a 28% to 35% decrease in their monthly bills. “Putrajaya will spend a total of RM5.2 billion to continue subsidising the cost of electricity for these various categories of consumers from July 1 to Dec 31,” Nik Nazmi says.
