Robust, Enduring S’pore-US Partnership?

Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong hailed the robust, enduring Singapore-US partnership but the visit of VP Kamala Harris came at a time when China is leading the Asean by its nose.

Ms Harris underlined America’s appreciation for Singapore’s longstanding and enduring friendship in the context of Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific…she did not talk of the Asean, though Lee mentioned the Asean.

The US stance is not to be too close to the Asean grouping which is made of a few pro-China member states, including Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and to a certain degree, Malaysia, Singapore and why not Thailand…
